Whoops, hang on, I definitely did not intend for all of these posts to be crossposted to LW. I thought Ben Pace had set things up so that only things tagged #lw would be crossposted, but that doesn't seem to have been what happened. My bad. I can't seem to delete the posts or make them invisible.

Yeah, poetry classes are useless at their stated purpose, like the rest of school. Most teenagers can identify with songs just fine; the class doesn't make them worse at that. Some teenagers, like you, don't see the point of poetry; the class doesn't make them better.

The real point of school, IMO, is training you to be reliable. Most people start out very unreliable and it takes years to get the personality change hammered in. But to employers it's worth it.
