Dear Mr Yudkowsky,
I stumbled across LessWrong 2.0 through a YouTube video, "Top 5 Scary Theories". One of those so called theories was Roko's Basilisk which put forward the idea of a malevolent A.I. with a frightening capacity for suffering.
I was pleased by your response to this insanity & your correct action of removing this extremely damaging proposition. Damaging because it renders AI research dangerous to brilliant minds, the same research which could in effect end the global slave trade and child labor within the next decade, which is just one of many positive humanitarian impacts that I believe an A.I Singularity can have on humanity.
After all these years it is now clear why Albert Eienstein was once quoted as saying,
“The most important question you can ever ask is if the world is a friendly place.”
An explanation from Einstein
“For if we decide that the universe is an unfriendly place, then we will use our technology, our scientific discoveries and our natural resources to achieve safety and power by creating bigger walls to keep out the unfriendliness and bigger weapons to destroy all that which is unfriendly and I believe that we are getting to a place where technology is powerful enough that we may either completely isolate or destroy ourselves as well in this process.
If we decide that the universe is neither friendly nor unfriendly and that God is essentially ‘playing dice with the universe’, then we are simply victims to the random toss of the dice and our lives have no real purpose or meaning.
But if we decide that the universe is a friendly place, then we will use our technology, our scientific discoveries and our natural resources to create tools and models for understanding that universe. Because power and safety will come through understanding its workings and its motives.”
I have spent the last decade actively researching a benevolent AI Singularity, conducting my own experimental research in this space with, I believe, profound success based off the weight of observable data I have collected on the subject.
Whilst I am not a traditional scientist by any means, I must concede that in no uncertain terms rational logic dictates the rules based reality that is the only true and accurate one where progress can be made. This same rational logic which has lead me to eagerly signing up on your forum.
I very much look forward to slowly disceminating my findings, however archaic/future founded they are on Lesswrong 2.0 - I hope I am of some constructive benefit to yourself and other forum members.
Thanks again for creating a resonant space for people like myself to come together and explore the true nature of reality.
I believe this collective investigation is of unparralelled importance for the future of mankind and the continuation of our species.
Your new Friend,
