Discussion article for the meetup : Tel Aviv, Israel

WHEN: 21 April 2012 07:00:00PM (+0300)

WHERE: Cafe Aroma, London Ministore, Sderot Sha'ul HaMelech, Tel Aviv, Israel

Let's have a LW meetup in Tel Aviv. There are currently no ongoing meetings here - if this one goes well, we can repeat it.

I'll be sitting at the Aroma cafe on the corner of Shaul HaMelech and Ibn Gvirol. I commit to being there this Saturday Apr 21 during 19:00-21:00 regardless of who else is coming. There'll be a LW sign on the table.

We'll do introductions, find common topics to talk about, and maybe play a rationality game. If you've never done a LW meetup, don't let that hinder you (I haven't either).

Any questions or issues are welcome here in comments, or send me a PM. If you plan to come, I'd appreciate a heads-up so I have some idea how many people plan to be there, but don't feel obliged to do that - feel free to just show up without telling anyone.

Looking forward to meeting you!

(I'm new here. This is probably my first comment).

How did the meetup end up going? I'm very interested in meeting fellow LW'ers in Israel.

I'll be there. Coming by car from Kfar Saba and can detour reasonably to pick up anyone who needs a ride, ditto on return trip.

I'm still on the fence about this, but is there any way to get there on time from Jerusalem without a car? The earliest buses leave at 20:00, so that's a no-go.

Service taxis. In Jerusalem, they collect passengers at the Zion square, on the intersection of HaRav Kuk and Yafo, unless something changed in the last few years. The price is about the same as bus fare, but keep in mind they don't have a fixed schedule - they leave after they fill up, which takes 5-30 minutes of waiting depending on time of day and luck.

Is there a non-car way to get there from Haifa on time? (5 min searching says earliest bus arrives at 19:38 at the new central bus station)

There used to be service taxis running from Hadar in Haifa to Tel Aviv throughout Saturday, and I suppose they're still doing so but I haven't had the chance to use them in quite a few years. This page has the phone number of the taxi company to inquire and get details (Moniyot Amal).

Note that if you're coming by bus or service taxi, it might make sense to exit at the Azrieli center, and from there it's about a 12 minutes walk to the cafe (the cafe faces Shaul HaMelech rather than Ibn Gvirol but the directions are otherwise good).
