TLP: Insight without Change
post by Vaniver · 2012-08-17T19:24:01.241Z · LW · GW · Legacy · 2 commentsAn interesting read by one of the blogs I read. It seems relevant to epiphany addiction.
Once you've read it (or tried and decided you didn't like it): the primary thing I got out of it is that insights can only be communicated inside social relationships (counting self-self relationships), which is difficult and rare to optimize around correctly. The father saying "your problem is that you seek validation from me" can only be done the in context of the father-son relationship, and saying it directly is often not the optimal way to actually change the behavior of the son. (Inception's climax comes to mind, which I don't recommend watching before seeing the rest of the film.)

IMO, not one of TLP's better posts about the inefficacy of therapy or self-help. (For example, his narcissist post was better.)

Pretty much all his posts talk about narcissism.
