A follow up to a relatively unpopular post [LW · GW]

Epistemic status -- speculative

Epistemic status -- vague statements that point in the direction of some thing probably true [N1]

Overarching claim -- the most important political spectrum is likely a specific ideological spectrum [N2]

2000-2012 -- Christian conservative vs not so Christian conservative

2016 -- transitional election

2020-2024 -- woke vs not so woke

So what sort of dynamics might exist with such a spectrum?

1) GOP gets votes by being less woke

2) Dems attempt to win by offering tantalizing welfare programs

3) GOP counters by also offering tantalizing welfare programs

It's plausible to me that such a dynamic could be bad. But on balance it seems more good than bad.

N1. Alternative description.

N2. The goal here is to not say some thing like “generic left vs generic right is over rated” or “left vs right is a veil that hides the truth” which reinforce a foolish way of thinking. The designation of one side as left & the other as right is somewhat arbitrary in that it reflects alliances & correlations more so than being inherent to the specific ideological spectrum.
