His philanthropy, guided by a strong libertarian bent, includes support for the Human Rights Foundation, the Committee to Protect Journalists and the Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence.

Yep, sounds like it! ;)

[The Seasteading Institute] is one of eight nonprofits that will be making brief presentations to Thiel's audience. No one's expected to open their checkbook at the event, but Thiel said he hopes attendees will begin thinking about supporting the groups.

Other presentations will be made by representatives from Humanity Plus, which promotes the idea that high-tech prosthetics and other scientific advancements can enhance human physical capabilities; the Foresight Institute, which focuses on the potential for medical and manufacturing advances through nanotechnology, or building things at the atomic level; and the SENS Foundation, which sponsors research into prolonging life by reversing the damage caused by normal aging.

if we're preaching against scope insensitivity when it comes to considering existential threats then it doesn't look too good when living on modified oil derricks to make a political statement is talked about in the same breath as the fate of humanity.
