Discussion article for the meetup : São Paulo Meetup
I have no idea whether there are people in the area, but I guess it's worth a shot. In this first meetup I hope we can get know each other and plan the next ones.
I'm still thinking about a good place to do this, please offer any ideas you have. Somewhere near a Metro station would be great (maybe near Avenida Paulista?).
If you think another date and/or time would be better, say it in a comment. And PLEASE comment here if you live nearby, even if you can't show up!
EDIT: Meeting point: the Starbucks at Alameda Santos with Alameda Campinas.

Hi guys, Glad to know there are active groups interested in rationality in Brazil! I'm living somewhat nearby in Rio de Janeiro, though I have family and friends in São Paulo. Unfortunately there's no way I can attend in the middle of the week, but good luck! Diego, do you have a link or something describing your work?

According to the Leverage Research's team page he directs the Institute for Ethics, Rationality and the Future of Humanity (Instituto Ética, Racionalidade e Futuro da Humanidade). They don't appear to have a site though.
I'd be glad to get more information about their activities as well.

Me, Mexamark, diogocaleiro, dyokomizo and joaolkf. 5 people, and diogo knows other people that might be interested in joining. I think we have enough people for a first meeting. Are the time and place good for everyone?

http://lesswrong.com/r/discussion/lw/aez/brazilians_unite_and_what_is_ierfh_portuguese/ I responded some of the questions asked here in this topic. I also counted the number of brazilians we know of in Less Wrong.
Time and Place Fine for me.

You may want to get in touch with Jonatas Müller and Leo Arruda. They both live in São Paulo and have a keen interest in many of the topics discussed in this forum.
I just came back from our own Buenos Aires meetup and it was a great success. Good luck!

Both of them part of the institution cited below, and only Leo lives in São Paulo.

Ah, I thought Jonatas lived in São Paulo, too, since we were about the meet last time I was there (in the end we couldn't meet due to conflicting schedules).

HI Gust,
I've tried this before: http://lesswrong.com/lw/64h/checking_for_threshold_number_of_rationalists_in/ besides Us, there is only one user, dyokomizo that is from são paulo that I know of.
Anyway, Hi! Always good to know we are not the only ones. The best place would be Starbucks near avenida paulista, in Campinas com Santos. But sincerely, I don't think we should meet before there is 5 of us.
You may be interested to know that given this absurd lack of less wrongers in são paulo, I decided to start an institution, pretty similar in interest to Leverage, and a little less with singinst. There are about 10 of us now, and a Lot of stuff to do to effectively improve the world (including rationality training).

That Starbucks was my first idea, too.
I didn't think I'd find a lot of people here, but maybe 4 or 5 would pop up... I mean, we have a giant university right here, there should be some people interested in rationality who found LessWrong. But it seem like there isn't =/
What does this institution of yours do, and how is it called? I don't know what this "Leverage" is.
Edit: Oh, ok, I found Leverage Research website. Still, what are you people doing?
