Winter was once a far harsher force, leaving our ancestors at its mercy and often taking loved ones with it. Today, we’ve overcome that challenge—staving off the cold and lighting the darkness. In this way, winter both literally represents one of the greatest challenges we've overcome, as well as metaphorically represents the challenges we still face. Much has changed for the better, but one thing remains: light and warmth are still needed to beat back the darkness.

Come join Kansas City Rationality & Effective Altruism and Kansas City Oasis for an evening of food, live music, and prose as we meditate on the darkness of the world, and celebrate the arc of progress, science, and the indomitable human spirit.
