There's a lot of room in between fully integrated consciousness and fully split consciousness. The article seems to take a pretty simplistic approach to describing the findings.

Huh. Is it possible that the corpus callosum has (at least partially) healed since the original studies? Or that some other connection has formed between the hemispheres in the years since the operation?

Maybe it was DID in the original studies. Consciousness is certainly an interesting phenomenon.
