Fourth London Rationalist Meeting?

post by Richard_Kennaway · 2009-07-02T09:56:03.799Z · LW · GW · Legacy · 10 comments

It's been the first Sunday of the month so far, but I haven't seen any announcement for this month yet. There was a discussion, but no conclusion. Is anything happening?

ETA: This would have appeared a day and a half ago, but I did not notice that it had only been stored as a draft and not published. When logged in, it was impossible to notice that I was the only person seeing this. Feature request for this site: add a visual indication that something is only a draft, e.g. a "Publish" link, perhaps with the words somewhere, Unpublished draft.

Ok, decision. I will be in London tomorrow, Sunday 5 July, whether there is a meetup or not. After taking in a visit to the V&A, I'll be around from about 2pm until whenever I go home again. If there's a rationalist meetup in that time, I'll be at it, if I know where and when. Waterstone's Piccadilly is fine with me. Time is flexible, there's always plenty to do in London, especially on a summer afternoon.

I can't receive email or the web on the move, so last call for me will be 7am Sunday.

ETA: Ok, looks like it's not happening. See y'all some other time.

Reading this, I suddenly had an A-Ha! and checked my post from last month that had, mysteriously, never garnered a single comment or vote and discovered that it was in the drafts area. I could swear that I double checked it at the time to make sure it had been published, but in any case, I've now made sure its published. Thanks!

If people are interested, we can have a meeting this weekend or at some other time.

I hoped the bikeshed painting thread would have been more conclusive, but it wasn't.

So - two questions are who's interested and weekend or weekday evening?

I'm interested, but only on a weekend and preferably a Sunday. I'd prefer not to skip taiko practice on a Saturday, and I want to be able to take most of the day to do whatever else in London is interesting that day, like the current Baroque exhibition at the V&A (ends 19 July, so I will definitely be in London to see it by then).

Venue: anywhere suitable for conversation. I'm sure the Subgenius party mentioned in the earlier thread might be fun for everyone so inclined afterwards, but it's not a place for intellectual discussion.

If you'd like one, we could even do one this Sunday at the usual venue. Anyone else interested?

I will come. By usual venue, do you mean 5th View cafe on top of Waterstones bookstore near Piccadilly Circus?

Is there something specific we are going to discuss or is it pretty casual?

I would prefer late morning (say after 11).

I have preference for later hours, as in the mornings people tend to be rather sleepy, but I'll go with whatever majority wants.

I'd be up for any of the next three Sundays, but this Sunday might be too short notice for other people. So far there's three posting here. Anyone else? Make it a top-level comment so the nesting doesn't drive everything off the main page.
