When: Saturday, Feb 5, 11am

Where: Del Valle Regional Park (see below for details)

This time we're trying something different for the Rationalists Field Day, namely a half-day hike on the Del Valle Lake trail. It is a picturesque trail around a lake next to Livermore, ~1h drive from Berkeley, really accessible and with little elevation gain. The plan is to start hiking at 11am, and go at a comfortable pace for everyone and turn back at 2-3pm, so we're back at the parking lot around 5pm, i.e. ~by sunset. The entire trail is 7 miles one way, so we'll probably have to turn back before we reach the far end. It's dog friendly, so definitely bring your dog (if it can take a few hours hike).

Transportation: we're going to have carpools from Berkeley, and if necessary other cities. Carpools are organized on the discord server, so your options are:

  1. Join the server  and react/comment to the corresponding post in the #events channel
  2. Message me on LW if you need a ride or can offer a ride and I'll include you in one of the carpools
  3. Fend for yourself

Directions & Time: 11am is the time we start hiking, it's 1 hour drive and likely 15-30 minutes wait at the park entrance, so plan to start from Berkeley at 9:30. Go to the parking lot next to Del Valle Marina boat in Livermore (pinned on the embedded map), if it's all occupied there's two parking lots further away. Meeting point is here by the eastern end of the East Trail, right next to the boat launches. Please don't be late and remember about the planning fallacy!

Logistics: please bring your own food and enough water with you, there isn't any cafes or stores at the park. Also don't forget adequate sun protection, the trail doesn't have much shade. There's plenty of restrooms for the first 1-2 miles of the trail, past that it's going behind a hill or bush. Park entrance fee is $6 per car. My phone is 571-599-6830, promise I'll have the sound on this time, feel free to call, text or message me here.

Hope to see y'all at the hike!
