Who:
- Your truly (duck_master), obviously
- Anyone else interested and in the Boston area, particularly if you’re in the suburbs rather than the city proper. If you’re reading this and are in the area, this includes you! Feel free to come even if you’re not a “typical ACX reader”, even if you’re socially awkward (I certainly am), even if you’ve never been to a meetup before, et cetera. I am particularly explicitly welcoming anyone from one or more of the following related communities:
- Postrationalists/This Part Of Twitter people
- Effective altruists
- Probabilistic predictors (i.e., people active on Metaculus, or Manifold, or so on)
- AI Alignment researchers
- Rationalists proper (eg heavy LessWrong poasters)
Location: Newton Centre Green (1221 Centre St), Newton, MA, USA
Date: Saturday, September 9, 2023; 12pm to 3pm (roughly)
What to do: This meetup will be mostly freeform, and the main thing y’all should come for is the talking. However I will ask the people there to introduce themselves briefly (name, and “short description” which should be at most 1 or 2 sentences). I’ll bring a big yellow plush duck to identify myself.
EDIT: In true rat-adjacent fashion, I am also inviting y'all to predict the attendance at this meetup.

Two recent things that will likely affect this meetup:
- Firstly, it will rain on Saturday around the time of the meetup, according to the weather forecast, particularly towards the planned end. Please bring umbrellas.
- Secondly, I might have COVID-19 (which I suspect I caught on Thursday night). As such, I will wear a mask throughout the meetup, and I encourage all of you to do the same.
Thanks for your attention!

Update: I have tested negative for COVID-19 twice with self-tests, but since I still feel ill, I recommend that participants mask up anyways (it could be the common cold or flu, for all I know).
