Karlsruhe Rationality Meetup: Inadequate Equilibria pt2

We aim to connect Rationalists from Karlsruhe (Germany) and surrounding areas. We are always happy to get to know new people and new perspectives(!). Please feel free to drop by even if you are unsure, feel awkward about it, or are not 'the typical LessWrong / SSC reader'.

This week, we meet online to talk about the second chapter of Inadequate Equilibria [? · GW]. In particular, we want to discuss the post, An Equilibrium of No Free Energy [LW · GW]. 

This week’s challenge: can you define the technical terms used in the article (free energy, equilibrium, inadequacy)? Also, come up with 3 examples of inadequate equilibria that you observed, which you have not thought of in this way before. For each one, spell out the forces that are in equilibrium and why you believe the situation is inadequate.

Reading An Equilibrium of No Free Energy [LW · GW] will make this exercise more clear if it sounds confusing.

We'll follow the following schedule:

• 18:50 - 19:10: soft beginning, socializing
• introductions (in case of new attendees), Updates (what surprises did you encounter recently / what are your biggest updates? / what did you personally learn?)
• ~19:20: discussion on Inadequate Equilibria (People sharing the definitions and examples they came up with over the week)
• ~20:30: open end
