There are dozens of think-pieces about how the internet changed our social environment for the worse. But the LessWrong and ACX communities are nice/helpful? What makes an online social space meaningful? What's can be done beyond moderation and nudging users?
This is where the conversation will start, but I fully expect it to meander and for sub-conversations to develop! Still attend if you haven't done the readings!
Readings
Two proposals to make internet social spaces and their effect on meat-space less miserable:
- Values Based Social Design, as presented in How to Make Tech Products (that Don’t Cause Depression and War)
- The Center for Humane Technology, via their course excerpt The Breakdown of Shared Understanding
Location
Picnic tables located in The Bentway, which is the sheltered area underneath the Gardiner Expressway. ///workforce.inched.promotes
This will probably be the last outdoors meetup!
