I've noticed that whenever somebody makes a claim that starts with "Humans are the only creatures that...", it turns out to be a pretty common feature among some class of creatures on Earth. Here is a National Geographic listicle of a few animals that are routinely capable of making up some kind of story that doesn't line up with reality and communicating it to others. Humans have our own take on the process, of course -- we lie about different things than squirrels do -- but planned deception is practiced widely in the animal kingdom.
