Description
The Australian AI Safety Forum is a two-day interdisciplinary event scheduled for November 2024. This forum, the first of its kind in Australia, aims to discuss perspectives on technical AI safety and governance, and explore Australia’s unique role in the global AI safety landscape. The event will be anchored around the International Scientific Report on the Safety of Advanced AI, highlighting its key content and examining its implications for Australia.
The forum is designed to encourage conversation and education between researchers, policy makers, and industry leaders. As such, we aim to catalyse an Australian community working on problems of technical AI safety and governance. We intend on this becoming a regular event.
For examples of the kinds of topics to be discussed, please see this list.
Who Should Apply
We deliberately intend for participants at the forum to have a broad range of expertise and experience, in particular:
- Researchers in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and the social sciences
- Policymakers
- Legal experts and public policy professionals
- National security and cybersecurity specialists
- Industry professionals (e.g., finance, telecommunications)
- Students and early-career professionals interested in AI safety and governance
Our primary focus is on helping to build the AI safety community in Australia, and as such we will be prioritising applicants who reside in Australia or who have other connections to Australia (e.g. Australian expats, people who have worked or studied in Australia for a considerable period of time, etc.).
