Meet inside The Shops at Waterloo Town Square - we will congregate in the indoor seating area next to the Your Independent Grocer with the trees sticking out in the middle of the benches (pic) at 7:00 pm for 15 minutes, and then head over to my nearby apartment's amenity room. If you've been around a few times, feel free to meet up at the front door of the apartment at 7:30 instead.
Discussion
Happy new year! For our first meetup of the year, let's reflect on how our lives have been in 2024, and what we would like it to look like in 2025.
We'll do this somewhat seriously, meaning that we'll be doing some Thinking By The Clock [LW · GW]. I'll be bringing clipboards, pencils, and scratch paper for everyone and the following question prompts. We'll split the time between thinking and writing, and discussion.
Question List
We'll have three sets of three questions that we'll work through, with 10 minutes to think/write, and then 20 minutes to discuss. These are batched so that if something true but uncomfortable came up for you, you can dodge discussing it if you want to.
- List a few things that went very well this year. (3-5)
- List a few things that went very badly this year. (3-5)
- If you were to 80/20 your last year, which 20% gave the 80% you valued most?
- If someone looked at your actions for the last year, what would they think your priorities were?
- What did you *intend* your priorities to be? Do you want to make any of the revealed priorities official intentions for next year?
- Do you want to drop any of the intended priorities which you ended up not following up on?
- What habits got in the way? What did you fail to get due to them?
- What's the most important unfulfilled goal for the last year? How can you change for the next try?
- What things are you curious about, that you expect to learn more about this year?
Supplemental Readings
There are no required readings for this meetup, and if you have extra time I'd prefer if you spend it thinking about the questions. If you do want more question prompts however, you can check out this list of questions to help you think about your previous year [LW · GW], and this doc on planning the next one.
