Different meeting location, same time as usual.

Meet at 7pm in front of Kitchener City Hall, near https://w3w.co/pink.pace.usages. We'll congregate there for 15 minutes, and then walk to a KWR member's apartment amenity room, nearby.

Activity

...Please don't actually break out into a fight.

This week, we'll be discussing the politics of food and eating. A lot of the focus of the readings are going to be around eating meat, because that's what people have written the most interesting posts on in our local internet neighbourhood, but don't feel obligated to limit discussion to that topic specifically. The fields of food anthropology and food sociology offers much to chew on.

Readings

Please read at least 2 of the 3 readings before the meetup:

The introduction of Eating Animals (Jonathan Safran Foer, 2009) http://marriedhusband.github.io/foer/ea/index.html#storytelling (from "The Fruits of Family Trees" up to right before "George")

Adversarial collaboration on "Is eating meat a net harm?" (David G and Froolow, 2019) https://slatestarcodex.com/2019/12/11/acc-is-eating-meat-a-net-harm/

Change my mind: Veganism entails trade-offs, and health is one of the axes (Elizabeth Van Nostrand, 2023) https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/Wiz4eKi5fsomRsMbx/change-my-mind-veganism-entails-trade-offs-and-health-is-one [LW · GW]
