Posted on behalf of Thomas McCabe:

I (Thomas McCabe, a Yale math student) will be hosting a Less Wrong meetup in New Haven, Connecticut, on the Yale University campus. The meetup will take place at 5 PM on Monday, October 12th, at the Yorkside Pizza & Restaurant at 288 York St. (time and place are flexible if anyone has a conflict); please comment if you'd like to attend, or if you have any questions or ideas. The location can be found on Google Maps at this link.

Some confirmed attendees include SIAI folk and Less Wrongers Anna Salamon, Steve Rayhawk, Carl Shulman, and Roko Mijc.

Feel free to contact me at thomas.mccabe@yale.edu, or at 518-248-5525.
Thanks, and see everyone there!

I believe you posted this to the wrong thread.

Interesting. I have a friend at Yale (Neuro/Psych) who doesn't read this blog, but expressed interest in the Summit. I'll send this info over to him; thanks!

Curious: were all these folks in the area for something, or are they local?

This is an eerie coincidence. I was just logging in to propose a New Haven meetup, since I just came from seeing James J. Hughes talk at the Yale Technology and Ethics Working Group, and realized that if there are any Lw'ers in the area I should've mentioned it to them.

I'm interested in attending, though I'm curious why Yorkside Pizza is the venue of choice.

Superior alternative suggestion?

I was thinking that Yale students might want to attend and Yorkside is right across the street from campus.

Isn't everything downtown "right across the street from campus"?

I was mostly just curious though. I'm not sure how relatively busy restaurants are at 5 on Monday so I'll trust your intuition. There isn't anywhere else I'd suggest in the Broadway area anyway, other than the York street noodle house, which would be very uncomfortable if it was busy.

Is there a protocol for identifying each other at the meetup?
