Anyone got any other examples of things just about everyone here has seen the folly of, even though they're widespread among otherwise-smart people?

• Belief in Democracy.
• Belief in AGW (Anthropic causes as the main driver of Global Warming)

Echoing mattnewport , these may require specific knowledge to recognize their irrationality.

I was in Mensa years ago -- most members I met were under-achieving smart people.
