Reminder: Well-Kept Gardens Die By Pacifism

...on which note, what has happened to the report button?

also, I am reminded of Lojban.

...on which note, what has happened to the report button?

It was deemed insufficiently useful during the previous redesign, and nobody got around to bringing it back since then.

(Previous) general policy: If a user's comments are repeatedly voted down beneath visibility and they don't take a hint, moderators may begin deleting comments from them, including retroactively.

Specifics: May do this to Shadowzerg.

I don't intend to be rude--I'm asking out of simple curiosity--but are you posting while inebriated? And/or is this poetry?

I'm happy to see that there are actually open-minded people on this website. You just considered the potential that my words could be an attempt at an artistic form of literature. I love you. I also believe that questions should be answered. The answer: No I am not attempting to post whilst being inebriated. I don't believe that you are either. But if you were, I would not be offended. I don't believe that an idea can be inherently bad. I do believe that you believe that I am arrogant. You believe correctly. Then again. Which human is not arrogant? We question life. That's pretty arrogant. You have a thumbs up from me by the way. I also believe in good karma.

Dear Shadowzerg, you don't need to create an article to state an idea. You can just comment in an Open Thread. But please don't. Your autistry would be lost on this audience. Go straight to Twitter and show the world your talents!

For future readers of this thread, the main reason that Shadowzerg has so many downvotes is due to suspicion that he utilized puppet-accounts in order to game the karma-system.

See here.

Edit: And then, he kept posting anyway.

I'm not sure that this is the main reason - I downvoted this because it was bad in and of itself.

1) Being compared to a poet in a forum that emphasizes logic is not a compliment; rather, it seems to be polite critique that implies that you present your ideas in a purposefully (and needlessly) confusing manner. 2) Your actual argument appears to be “actually doing something is better than just wishing you did something.” If you have somewhere interesting to go with this, very well, I’d be interested to hear it. But so far, it’s appears to be a cliché thought hidden in superfluous verbiage. 3) I am also new here, and I can readily identify that your initial post was nowhere near the standards of the articles under the Discussion tab, let alone the standards of the Main tab.

Brigid, I think your heart is in the right place here, but at this point attempting to argue with the obvious troll is counterproductive.

Shadowzerg's posts are being consistantly voted down enough to be hidden under default settings. That is what we should be doing. Responding to trolls just encourages to stick around. Ignore them and they will get bored and go away.

A simple fact. You are a people who on average react negatively to a newcomer with positive mentality. By the way, the fact you people force yourselves to wait before placing an idea, should be considered insufficiently useful as well. Again I have refused to give anyone a thumbs down because I respect people who think. Everybody thinks. Connection= I respect everybody. Second connection = I respect everybody too much to willingly disrespect them. A third connection= I came here looking for friends and found people looking for enemies.

I thought that your post sounded rather negative. I assumed that you came here looking for enemies and found what you wanted. If so, then I'm feeding a troll, but the karma system works so well here that I don't expect that to be a problem, so I'll take the risk. If you actually came seeking friends as you say, then you probably need to learn to express yourself more clearly. Maybe you have a friend who can read over your comments first?

How much does it truly matter how arrogantly stated the information is if it remains true? I thought we were truth seekers here.

I continue to develop negative karma and as a result everyone else now has more.

It may help if you spend some time lurking first and post later after you've read a bit here. Jumping immediately to posting like this isn't going to get a good reception (here or almost anywhere else on the internet).

You speak the truth. I am generally well received by people who like reception. People who don't like reception are unwilling to receive.

I did not write those tags in a reverse manner as they are currently being presented. However, it remains to be a meaningful sentence. When read in either direction I mean to say. Interesting.

Keeping the signal to noise ratio decent and preventing spamming are useful. This also helps make sure that people have some minimal familiarity with LW terminology and norms when they express ideas, so that the idea will be well-expressed and won't be redundant with statements already here. In particular, in this context, the point is somewhat redundant in the coherent parts and not fully coherent in some parts (the comment about "honesty" doesn't parse in a coherent fashion). Incidentally, there are studies which back up the general idea that wishing for things is a bad approach. Richard Wiseman cites a few of them in his excellent book "59 Seconds" where he discusses at one point the literature that shows that trying to imagine oneself as healthier, stronger, etc. makes people actually less inclined to engage in diet and exercise.

This is absolutely true. I clicked the report button because your logic is beautiful to my ears and that should be known. Now if they question why I clicked the report button, they will know. Beautiful logic in my eyes would be seen as simple because simple is easier to understand. I decided a new approach because I believe in innovation. I did state in my post that I do believe that wishing is less efficient than doing. That is not to say that wishing is not efficient however. It holds efficiency in the regards that I do what I wish.

When I made the comment about honesty and the fact that I believe myself to be honest, I was making an attempt at making the statement an obvious opinion but not stated in a necessarily obvious fashion. I respect you thinker. The world needs people like you.

I have removed the report you made on the grandparent comment. That's not what the button is for; it's there to draw moderator attention to spam.

When viewed from the inbox, a comment should have [Context] and [Report] buttons in the bottom left- or at least it does for me. I don't know how to get that for comments that aren't direct replies to you, though.

comment by Alicorn · 2012-05-01T20:06:15.230Z · LW(p) · GW(p)

I'm not sure. I think the reason I don't see it is because I have a ban button instead, though.

Now please just ban me. I wish to not be a part of this close-minded society. Close-minded is a negative mentality. I'm perfectly happy without negativity.

Also, to make your statement true, responder, instead say, " It would also be helpful if you did not write like a schizophrenic to people who think like me." The connection = " It would be helpful to people who think like me."

I say this because what you stated we call an opinion. You did not however, state a fact. You've also just been spoon-fed logic. Logic that anyone can understand.

-1 karma for stating in idea on a website who's goal society are those who wish to be LessWrong. Interesting.
