Why doesn't LW have ShowHN style posts, no comments , just a link to some page?

Why would it?  LW isn't a general-purpose site or even a focused news source.  It's first and foremost a discussion forum.  Without comments, it's not useful to have it here.

For context, i mean posting a link without much comment, but people can engage on the post in the comment section.

You did say "no comments", which is ambiguous between "no description of the link" and "not open for further comments by others". A link without context is bad UI, you need to click it to find out if it's worth clicking. So it's only worthwhile if the other side of the tradeoff has more weight, such as it being a problem that people more rarely post links because of the inconvenience of needing to write a description (as is proper according to the local norms).

The idea is that the person who writes a post does the work to make the case of why the link should be visited. Often that's done well by providing short excerpts.

I make them often enough. they don't get upvoted a ton usually.
