I've had some success with a rule of "If you want a sugary snack that's fine, but you have to make a specific intentional trip to the cupboard for it, not just mindlessly/reflexively grab something while putting together another meal or passing by"

I think the site should be more in the business of casting judgement on demon-summoning research, because we now have far and beyond enough "alignment" research that just because something is called that doesn't mean its fans should be made to feel welcome. My only reason for the about-turn is deciding using this tag will be a demon-summoning operation rather than a demon-suppressing one.

oh huh ... It hadn't occurred to me to use it for memorization. I should try that, considering I think I have subpar memory for non-narrative/non-logical information like strings of numbers. Good point!

Conversely, I think I have above average memory for narrative and logically coherent information like how things work or events that happened in the past. It feels like that type of information has a ton of "hooks" such that I can use one of a dozen of them to recall the entire package, while a string of numbers has no hooks. It's like someone is asking me to repeat white noise. But phone numbers and codes and what not are that. Let alone trying to keep track of numbers on something like a graphics card or processor (I gave up).

But then why do medicine portals advise us to be wary of risks associated with too low sodium? It's claimed to cause insulin resistance, a higher risk of heart disease, hyponatremia, and whatnot. People with any-cause hyponatremia can cure their symptoms with more salt. These people here^[1] claim that it's probably not good for healthy people to artificially (i.e. against their natural desire) restrict their sodium. After reading these claims, what's the main good side of reducing sodium intake to pretty low?

Ok, so this sounds like it talks about cardinality in the sense of 1 or 3, rather than in the sense of 2. I guess I default to 2 because it's more intuitive due to the transfer property, but maybe 1 or 3 are more desirable due to being mathematically richer.

From my personal perspective, I think Roam brought to attention a different type of software and vibe which were dominated SV type startups.  Through Roam, I've learned about all those fancy-old ideas and concepts. I guess I was coming from a more mainstream corner of the tech scene.

My excitement declined as the hype too, and as you describe, I couldn't understand its real benefits as I didn't have a strong enough reason to use it. 

Coming to Roam a few years later, after starting a publication, has made the difference as I'm less focused on [[double-bracketing]] but just taking notes, gradually and only when I'm feeling like it.

"Drink only water" is a good one. Depends if you think forgoing deliciousness, or other effects (alcohol, caffeine) counts as a tradeoff. 

Given you don't think forgoing the convenience/enjoyment of using your phone in bed counts as a tradeoff, I'm guessing this likely is the sort of thing you're looking for.

I expect (~ 75%) that the decision to "funnel" EAs into jobs at AI labs will become a contentious community issue in the next year. I think that over time more people will think it is a bad idea. This may have PR and funding consequences too.
