Reminder that I am producing a multi-voiced, ElevenLabs MV2 quality podcast feed for Don't Worry About the Vase for those that find that a valuable thing:
https://open.substack.com/pub/dwatvpodcast/p/monthly-roundup-24-november-2024?r=67y1h&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
All uniquely quoted people get a distinct voice for easy differentiation, and I personally find the main "Zvi Voice" really good for long listening.
I've turned this into a full cast recording with ElevenLabs, with individual voices for all the players:

Multi voiced podcast episode for this post in all is two hours and thirty eight minute glory!
(Fun fact, the voice I gave Nate was the one created for contract devils in Planecrash)

Podcast episode for this post from the Askwho feed described at the top:
Yeah, just plugging any old unadjusted text straight in to ElevenLabs would get you funky results. I really like Zvi's posts though, I think they are high quality, combining both great original content and a fantastic distillation of quoted views from across the sphere. I do fair amount of work on the text of each post to ensure a good podcast episode gets made out of each one.
Thanks! Yes, I am aware, please, I would encourage you to listen to the difference. I am running this through ElevenLabs, which is currently (IMO) at the forefront of humanlike voices, if produces lifelike tone and cadenced based on cues. I also go through and assign every unique quoted person a unique voice, to ensure clear differentiation when listening, alongside extracting text from images, and providing a description when appropriate.
I really do implore you, please, have a listen to a section and reply back how you find it in comparison.
Whew, this heroic length post translates to 2 hours and 23 minutes of top-quality narration :D

I want to share these links in the comments because I hope people who, like me, find audio more accessible, are able to learn of the existence of this podcast feed. I put a fair bit of work into ensuring a high-quality audio feed. I'm not trying to just spam, but if this is outside the norms of lesswrong, please let me know.
Apposite to the content, this is the AI podcast episode for this post:
Podcast episode now live for this post on the recently launched Don't Worry About the Vase Podcast Feed!
https://open.substack.com/pub/dwatvpodcast/p/monthly-roundup-20-july-2024
I'm sharing this again because I want to make sure this accessible option for Zvi's highly worthwhile posts is known to anyone who might find it useful. I know LessWrong has automatic TTS for its posts, but I'm creating an ElevenLabs version for all of Zvi's posts, which I personally find easier to listen to for longer form texts.
A couple of things that make this version unique:
- Every quoted person gets their own individual voice for easy differentiation.
- I create audio descriptions of the charts and graphs.
If you're a fan of audio content, please do give this a try. I'm hoping to provide something that will be useful to at least a few people.

Lots of points of views in this, here is an AI "Narration" of this post where every unique quoted person is giver their own distinct "Voice"

Long post is indeed long, AI audio conversion for those that like to consume that way:
https://askwhocastsai.substack.com/p/on-dwarkeshs-podcast-with-leopold
Whew this one was a bit of a doozy, multi voiced AI narration where everyone gets their own voice:
Hopefully people do find it useful. I know I've been able to consume more with my dyslexic preference for audio. I do put a fair bit of work into things like giving every distinct "speaker" their own voice. And,.for me at least, the end product is a good listen.
Multi Voiced AI narration of this post. Every unique quoted person gets their own voice to distinguish them:

Thanks! Glad you are enjoying it.
Thanks, appreciate it.
It is not cheap. It's around ~$20 per hour of audio. Luckily there are people on bord with this project who help cover cost through a Patreon
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying the audio format. I really agree this story is worth "reading" in some form, it's why I'm working on this project.
Yes! There are RSS feeds for Planecrash, Luminosity, Animorphs and the article feed.
I've produced a multi voiced Elevenlabs reading of this post, for ease of listening and speaker differentiation.

I have to say I'm slightly surprised, I personally think the ElevenLabs voice is more emotive, and I find it much easier listening. Is the general opinion that it is actually inferior?

If you are looking for any support on a more naturalistic version of those posts that make it to the podcast feed, I have been experimenting heavily and producing an ElevenLabs AI podcast of Yudkowsky's latest fiction. I have an API pipeline already built, and could assist in producing a test episode or two.
I have taken up the torch, and I am creating a podcast of Planecrash using a version of current-gen voice tech to create a multi-voiced performance. Weekly episodes are coming out here https://shows.acast.com/project-lawful-aka-planecrash
